Choose a name and character in the original menus. Arrows move in four directions; Home / Page Up / End / Page Down move diagonally. Walk into monsters to attack. i shows inventory, comma picks up items, o opens a door and e eats. Period waits; if the game warns about nearby enemies, prefix it with m to force rest. Shift + comma / period climbs up / down stairs. Shift + S saves and exits; use the same player name to restore. Escape cancels a prompt, Enter confirms and Space dismisses messages. Choose the original tutorial if you are new to NetHack. The native Help key lists every command; # opens extended commands. F4 shows the dungeon overview and F5 switches between the original tiles and text map. Use the on-screen keys for a phone; landscape and fullscreen give more room.
