How to play Xiangqi
Red moves first. Generals and advisors stay in their palace; elephants stay on their side of the river and cannot jump their midpoint. Horses need an empty first step. Cannons capture over exactly one screen. Soldiers gain sideways steps after crossing the river. Generals cannot face each other along an empty file. Checkmate or no legal moves loses. Threefold repetition draws unless one player checks continuously, which loses. This table draws after 120 moves without a capture or soldier move; repeated chasing is not adjudicated.
