How to play Binokel

Partners sit opposite. Four copies of jack, queen, king, ten and ace in every suit form an 80-card deck; twenty cards each. Auction starts at 50, rises by one below 60 and by five thereafter. Passed players leave the auction. If the first three pass, dealer plays 50. Declarer chooses trump only from a held queen-king pair; no pair loses the contract. The declaring partnership needs at least 20 meld points. Melds score automatically and their cards are revealed: aces/kings/queens/jacks around; ordinary and royal marriages; spade queen with diamond jack; and a trump A-10-K-Q-J run. Duplicate melds use the full single/double/triple/quadruple table. A royal marriage already in a run is not counted twice. Follow suit and beat the current winner when possible; when void, trump and overtrump when possible. Equal copies favor the first played. Each ace, ten or king taken earns one; last trick earns two. At least 20 trick points are required to score a hand, and at least 20 meld points to add melds. Declarers reaching their bid score their total, otherwise lose the bid. Opponents score qualifying totals. First team to 500 wins; if both reach 500, the declaring team wins.
