How to play Polish Hearts
Seven penalty hands: each trick costs 20; each heart 20; queen 60; king or jack 30; heart king 150; seventh and last tricks 75 each; the seventh hand combines all penalties. Follow suit, with no obligation to beat the current winner. Hearts cannot lead while another suit is held in the heart, heart-king and combined hands. Next, each player deals a trump hand and chooses trump from the first five cards, before the rest are dealt; each trick earns 25. Finally, build four suit columns around the dealer’s opening rank; extend a column by one rank, or start another at that opening rank. Play whenever possible. First out earns 800, second 500. Three-player games omit the club two, use six cards for the trump choice, cost 15 per trick, 140 for the heart king and 70 per special trick, earn 20 per trump trick and award 790/485 for the final layout. Highest total wins.
