How to play 3-5-8
Eighteen hands with a 52-card deck. Sixteen cards each and a four-card kitty. Dealer targets eight tricks, the next player five, the third three. Each player chooses each of the six contracts once on their own deals: four trump suits, no trump and no tricks. Discard four before taking the kitty. Follow suit; if void, play trump when held. Highest trump or highest lead suit wins. Ordinary hands score tricks minus quota; no-tricks reverses that score. Before subsequent hands, players above their previous quota exchange one unwanted card per surplus trick with players below quota; the receiver automatically returns their highest card in its suit. Higher current quotas exchange first. Highest total after eighteen hands wins. This uses the eighteen-hand contract variant rather than the twelve-trick sudden-win variant.
